Join us at the Hampstead Summer Festival

From the 20th June to 5th of July, Hampstead will see the long awaited Hampstead Summer Festival, a celebration of all things creative in the streets of NW3.

The theme of the festival this year is Alice and Wonderland, with everything from a screening of Tim Burton’s foray down the rabbit hole, to a Mad Hatter’s Tea Party at Keats House.

The festival has thought of everything this year, with events tailored for all the family. There will be a sports section located at the top of Heath Street with football, an interactive sports zone and fitness and nutrition experts on hand.

For the armchair sports lovers amongst us, there’s a revival of the Hampstead chess days of old. For many years, South End Green housed a chess cafe that was the home for many dedicated players. Since the cafe closed, the sight has been less common; hopefully this festival will spark something of a revival of the sedate, intelligent game.

The celebrated ‘Big Fair’ takes place on Sunday 5th July on Heath Street, where 100 stalls will line Heath Street, accompanied by live music and street entertainment.

Hampstead has long been a destination for artists and writers alike, with many seminal names in the history of English art making their home in Hampstead.  To name but a few, the esteemed list includes John Constable, Lucian Freud and Cecil Beaton, all of whom have been drawn to London’s leafy postcode. We think it might be something to do with the beautiful bay windows in Constable’s house that were a primary inspiring factor - all that natural light! To cater for the future generation of artists, there is to be a Cass Art + BBC Get Creative ‘Paint the Heath’ event, too. Who knows what kind of talent might be uncovered?

Earlier in the month, Hampstead sees the return of the Affordable Art Fair, which will take place over three days on East Heath Road. Running from the 11th of June, tickets to the event are priced from £8.64 and can be purchased here.

There is something for everyone at this summer celebration of all things Hampstead and with proceeds being donated to two local charities, you can rest assured that you’re contributing to the local community while enjoying yourself!
